Position Name: Clinical Innovation Pharmacist


Reports to: Director of Clinical Operations


Position Summary and Scope of Responsibilities

The Clinical Innovation Pharmacist is responsible for spearheading the development of cutting-edge services to meet the evolving needs of patients and clients. The primary emphasis is the development of outcomes-based clinical programs to improve patient health. An awareness of current practice guidelines, common barriers to care, patient motivational factors, availability of technology, regulatory aspects, and the value perspectives of self-insured employers positions the Clinical Innovation Pharmacist to develop best-in-class services. Secondarily, the Clinical Innovation Pharmacist will assist in implementing cost-savings programs, participate in providing existing clinical services, and assist in client-facing interactions.


Principal Roles and Responsibilities

  • Research and implement outcome-driven services to improve health and lower healthcare costs
  • • Proactively identify and address barriers to effective patient care delivered through the PBM
  • • Collaborate with departments to develop and capitalize on technology and health information
  • • Provide medication therapy management services to members
  • • Leverage presentation skills by delivering reporting as needed, in partnership with the account manager, to clients on the clinical aspects of their benefit plan
  • • Manage incoming requests for information from staff, clients, and members regarding drug therapy, formulary and clinical program related issues and partner with reporting and analytics team to present meaningful information
  • Educate clients on clinical programs and solutions to increase rate of implementation and adoption of such programs
  • Plans, organizes, and directs responsibilities delegated by the Director or Executive Officer
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pharmacy residency, board certification, and/or significant experience working as a clinical pharmacist
  • Active pharmacist license
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, with experience creating and updating Excel spreadsheets
  • Strong familiarity with current treatment standards and options for common metabolic conditions including diabetes


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous PBM experience including knowledge of P&T strategies, Prior Authorization guidelines, and current industry trends


Education: PharmD or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree


Experience/Knowledge:

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with colleagues, clients, and patients
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervisory oversight
  • Project management skills including timeline, budgeting, and resource identification
  • Ability to prioritize and have good organizational skills
  • Capable of interfacing with True Rx clients and owners to provide solutions to problems
  • Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office products
  • Need to be flexible and work as a team player
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail
  • Need to be adaptable and have different responsibility given periodically
  • Travel as required


Licenses and Certification Requirements: Active pharmacist license


Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands and fingers and type for up to eight hours in a workday. Employees are required to stand and/or walk for short periods of time and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
