Position Summary + Scope of Responsibilities

The Director of Business Development position is an individual contributor role and will be expected to identify sales targets, develop strategies, and close new accounts. This role will primarily call on brokers, TPA’s, captives, and employer groups to capture their pharmacy benefit management business. A preferred candidate will have a proven track record of exceeding sales quotas, building relationships, and focus on exceptional customer service and care. Job will require occasional evening and weekend travel event attendance.   


Principal Roles and Responsibilities

  • Research and identify sales targets within assigned territory
  • Consistently network and outreach to accounts and sales targets
  • Use consultative sales approach to identify customers needs and potential barriers
  • Work with management to formulate short and long-term sales action plans
  • Maintain necessary sales reports and sales logs required by management
  • Maintain reports of all sales calls, referral contacts, accounts and competitor files
  • Conducts, participates and attends educational meetings and seminars
  • Travels frequently, often on short trips
  • Assist Governing Body with decisions of advertising, relationship building and networking to help the client obtain new clients
  • Acts as a liaison between the company and the HR personnel with our clients.
  • Assumes full responsibility for his/her own actions, professional skills, and attitude
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent or four to ten years related experience and/or training, equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ Years of outside B2B or medical sales experience
  • Proven track record of sales success
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Ability to travel as needed


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous PBM insurance sales experience
  • PBM industry knowledge and/ or relationships


Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at that time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands and fingers, and type for up to eight (8) hours in a workday. Employee is required to stand and/or walk for short periods of time and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
